Everyone says "yes" - there should be no problems.

One 'querk' was noted however:

Yes. We do it here. The only thing that you will note is warnings
when programs compiled on the 4.1.1 machines are run on the 4.1
machines. The warnings are simply that "lib{whatever} is out of
date". If you don't like those warnings simply make sure that you
compile everything on the 4.1 systems. We haven't had a lick of
trouble with that.

Thank you one and all. This has put my mind at rest as I only have a few
days to upgrade before a course starts and I know from bitter experience
how the simplist upgrade tasks which are expected to take hours can turn
into days of problems.
