Easy. Punt ClosedWindows and run MIT X.

I don't have OW 3.0, but to avoid core dumps, you can tell all
your users to include the line "limit coredumpsize 0" in their
.cshrc files.

To remove core problems have your users add `limit coredumpsize 0' in
their `.cshrc' file. Of course this doesn't work if you actually
want the core files sometimes--but not everyone uses core files.

i dealt with a similiar problem
by adding the following
line to everybody's
.cshrc

set coredumpsize 0

We recently install open window version 3.0 on our sparcstation 1 and is
online and working. The only problem is that we are getting a lot of core dumps
on the system. A user suggested to perform a "file core" to determine the cuprit and use dbx to determine the problem. But right not the problem has increase
and has created problems with disk space. Has anyone on the net getting this
   problem? Is there a solution.?

   Please email to address

   Thanks in Advance

We have had quite a few problems here with the recent release of the OpenWindows 3.0 server.
I have actually been having more luck with the beta version of the software. Problems have
ranged from random core files to 3rd party software not working. I think the "official"
release may have been premature. Make sure you post a summary on this one.

We've gotten a few core files from OWV3 as well (we're switching back and
forth between OWV2 and OWV3). Not all the rc files for the deskset tools are
compatible; the .openwin-init is very different for the two releases. If
the core files are coming from deskset tools, check the init and rc files.
Otherwise, good luck.

Try (in C-shell) "limit coredumpsize 0" before starting the OW.

Please be sure to summarize back to the list; thanks.

I've been using Openwindows 3.0 for about a week now and haven't noticed
it dumping core. Perhaps it is because I am running a somewhat strange
environment-- I use the OW3.0 server for the NeWS support, but generally
run only X11R4 and X11R5 clients/window managers on top of Sun's server.

If you are running csh, you can stop dumping corefiles by putting the
incantation "limit coredumpsize 0" in your .cshrc file.
