Hello,

I'm sorry it took so long for a summary, but until now the replies have
not even slowed down. We were hoping that there were some thing which we could
configure or set to speed up things. The CAD package we use is ARRIS by Sigma
Designs Inc. I would be more than happy to receive any info or tips from ARRIS
users to speed up machines or anything else (maybe an ARRIS mailing list?). Unfortunately, our budget has been cut with very sharp scissors thus making it
impossible for any purchases, which brings us to the answer to the speed question. RAM! RAM! RAM! Just about everybody and their Aunt Petunia made me
repeat 100X, "I will not run OW and CAD with only 16MB of RAM." Most people
said that if I had more RAM I could almost eliminate swap. Currently all of our
machines are using ~10MB of swap! As for local disks, they were put on a back
burner in regards to performance. I have cut down my kernel to the bone, and have alerted users to running extra processes. Alas, that is all I can do unless I can get some dirt on somebody in Accounting.....

MANY MANY THANKS TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO GAVE SUCH GREAT! REPLIES!!!

                        Thanks,
                                Craig..........
