SUMMARY: problem with mail under 4.0.3

my original question:

>Lately I've been seeing a problem with sending mail off-site: if the
>connection times out three times, the control file disappears from
>/var/spool/mqueue, and the text is left behind. this happens on the
>mail server, which is a Sun 3/280 running 4.0.3. I mount that machine's
>/var/spool/mail on my clients, and I also mount its /var/spool/mqueue.

No one seems to have seen this problem. Several people wrote to suggest
that I not mount /var/spool/mqueue, and one wrote to say that he does
the same thing without any difficulty. in attempting to track the
problem down, I found that I had sendmail running as a daemon on two
machines, which I suspect is a mistake.

At any rate, I found out how to fix the original problem that caused
me to mount /var/spool/mqueue on all my clients, so hopefully I won't
see this again.
