My original query:

I only received a few replies, and they all said there should be no problem. A few
said they had already done it. So I went for it !! I only had one problem:
sunupgrade listed the software installed on the system correctly (including SYS & KVM),
and listed the software NOT installed. Then came the list of software to upgrade:
KVM and SYS were not there!!
Maybe this was due to the fact that it is not really possible to upgrade a Sun4m from
4.1.1 to 4.1.2 since there was no 4m support under 4.1.1. I hunted around the cdrom and
went through the upgrade scripts. I gave up trying to understand things, and just
went for it anyway. As promised, kvm and sys were not upgraded (still at 4.1.2_ER).
To fix that problem I did the following:
        mkdir /usr/kvm.new
        cd /usr/kvm.new
        tar xvf "kvmpath"
(kvmpath = something like /usr/etc/install/tar/export/exec/kvm/sun4_sunos_4_1_2/kvm)
        followed by
        tar xvf "syspath"
(syspatt = something like /usr/etc/install/tar/export/exec/kvm/sun4_sunos_4_1_2/sys)

I then made sure I was in single user and renamed the kvm.new directory to its proper place,
then rebooted. Finally, the upgrade was complete.
I thought I'd include this in case anyone else came upon the same problem.

Dean
