The concensus was that disks larger than 1GB just don't work on 4.1 and only
work on 4.1.1 with a patch. So I upgraded the machine to 4.1.1B and installed
patch 100343-01. Some folks mentioned patch levels ranging from -01 to -04.
Does anyone know the difference between the various patch versions? In any
case, the disk appears to be (superficially, at least) operating correctly.

One responder suggested that patch 100424-01 (SunOS 4.1.1, NFS/fsirand security
fix) might also be necessary, but I have not installed that one.
