SUMMARY: screenblank blanking too well!

I've received a number of subquent replies regarding my screenblank
problem and thought I'd share them with the list:

Many people have pointed out that rdate is not the "best choice" for
keeping clocks on multiple machines in sync due to the large "jump"
in time that can be taken. Some side effects that were pointed out
were things like cron executing the same command multiple times and
the screenblank problem :-)

The alternative has been suggested to use ntp or xntp to slowly sync
the clock with the server, rather than one big time jump.

Thanks to all. I will take that advice to heart!
