Thanks, many of you who've tried to reply to my question. Most of you
were inferring that $OPENWINHOME was possibly got corrupted. But it was not.
I found out what I did in my .xinitrc file as follow to fix it:
...
sleep 15 & pid=$!
olwm -syncpid $pid&
wait $pid
...
