While the above comment is OK, beware that "pass8" seems to be a
Sun-specific feature. We need portable .cshrc files and use
"stty cs8 -istrip -parenb" on SunOS, HP-UX and AIX.

Trying "stty pass8" on non-Suns you'll get:

AIX-3.2.3: stty-posix: unknown mode: pass8
HP-UX 9.01: unknown mode: pass8
