Hi Sun Managers,

The original question was:

The server dying and xdm dying bugs are known to Sun.
The common opinion about xdm which comes with OpenWin 3.2 is that there
is no chance to get it to work properly. The error is in the xdm, not in
xnews server. A few people in the net compiled MIT xdm and it works fine.

The very good solution is from Richard Elling. Here is what he wrote:

I agree, it's easy to install and it works fine.

Staticly linked version of xdm is also available from Fabrice Cuq.
It can be obtained from yosemite.atmos.ucla.edu (anonymous ftp)
as /pub/xdm.static.
Fabrice also said that Sun just issued two patches for xdm, but I don't
know their numbers.

Edsel Adap uses ncdware 3.0 package instead of the original one.
