Okay, I received several responses. Basically most of them pointed out
that the xdm distributed with Solaris 2.2 is broken and to compile your
own or apply patches to the one from Sun, etc.
Since I'm still getting the workstations set up, I've put the xdm project
on hold temporarily. Thanks for all the responses. The solution I'll
probably adapt is compiling xdm from X11R5 distribution code.
