Hi,

I recently posted a question which amounts to the following:

When I try to run OpenWindows, I get an error message similar to the following:

ld.so: libsunwindow.so.0: not found
/usr/openwin/bin/xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2):

This occured when I upgraded my SparcStation IPC from SunOS 4.1.1b to 4.1.3

I received many suggestions, but the general consensus, as exemplified by a
message from Adam Shostack (adam%bwnmr4@harvard.harvard.edu), said the
following:

--- % su (root)
--- # cd /etc/
--- # strings ld.so.cache (record the output)
--- # ldconfig
--- # strings ld.so.cache (record the output)
--- # exit
--- % $OPENWINHOME/bin/openwin

This worked. It seems that ldconfig fixed the problem. However -- it would not
have worked, supposedly, if I had not installed SunView_Users package from
the 4.1.3 CD-ROM.

Thanks to Pauline van Winsen (pauline@uniq.com.au) who also said:

>Sounds like you have ldconfig problems. Have you tried removing the
>shared library cache /etc/ld.so.cache & running /usr/etc/ldconfig?

and Glenn Satchell (glenn@uniq.com.au), who suggested:

>If libsunwindow.so.0.nn does not show up in the /etc/ld.so.cache, run the
>following command: "mv /etc/ld.so.cache /etc/ld.so.cache-; ldconfig"

Other helpful comments suggested running ldd to see which libraries xnews and
xinit are looking for, and to remove old .openwin-init and other .X stuff,
in case it was from previous releases of OpenWindows.
