I got a lot of good information about 101318-45 trashing syslogd. The
consensus is that 101318-42 contains the last working version of syslogd. I
think that my mail failed because I didn't re-install an earlier version of
the patch. However, Sun has sent me an unofficial new patch which I am about
to install. If that fails I guess I will go back to 101318-42.
