As always, I had to better read the manuals :-)
When you create a new auto-mounter table and you insert it
into auto_master, you have to :
client# mkdir /base_dir
client# automount -v
on every client. Rebooting is not needed. The automounter
invocation reload new maps from auto_master.org_dir
