SUMMARY: Solaris2.4: ufsdump user@host:...

From: Frederic Saunier (Frederic.Saunier@imag.fr)
Date: Fri Feb 17 1995 - 16:18:11 CST

In order to perform a Solaris2.4 machine named myhost, such a

  ufsdump 0uf user@backupserver:/dev/rmt/... /dev/rdsk/..

command, Solaris2.4 will previously change the uid from root
to user BEFORE doing the dump from user@myhost to user@backupserver

Hence :
1- user must exist on myhost
2- on myhost, user must belong to the sys group, in order to
get read access to the disk devices + write access to dumpdates
3- of course, on backupserver side, user must be able to write to
    the tape device
4- user@myhost must have an entry in user's
.rhosts on backupserver (and not root@myhost)

Many thanks to all who reply :
