Hi Managers
I would like to thank all managers who responded to my
   problem of Sparc20 not rebooting.

> -: stty: not found

As everyone pointed out, I had corrupted the /etc directory.
Vikas pointed me in the right direction when he suggested that the
partitions could be overlapping. Indeed, this was the case
so when I was installing Oracle, it was overwriting the /etc directory.

I managed to reboot off the cdrom, mount /etc from another host and copy
the necessary files.(and relink them).

Thanks again to the following managers for their quick responses

art@infinity.com (Art Hebert)
cds@ssds.com( Chris Swanson)
spp@vx.com (Stephen Potter)
anderson@neon.mitre.org (Mark S. Anderson)
vikas@del05ld.sgs-thomson.it(Vikas)

and to anyone else I have missed out

Cheers
Ashok
