Subject: SUMMARY: HP Laserjet to Sun SLC

I had trouble hooking a HP LaserJet printer to a Sun SLC. Here is the solution:

Printcap entry:
lp:\
        :lp=/dev/ttya:sd=/var/spool/lp:\
        :br#9600:ms=-parity:

Cable:
        2-3, 3-2, 1-1, 7-7, 4-5, 5-4

Jumper printer as RS-422 or RS-232.

The same configuration works for HP LaserJet II.

Most sources insisted on RS-422, :ms=-parity, -cstopb, -clocal, -cread, crtscts,
ixon, -opost & an output filter that echoed Esc&k2G to the printer. This didn't
work.

Thanks to gberger@eng.clemson.edu, ellen@kuroda.com, and gift@sqi.com for
your assistance. gberger steered me to two large printcap files on
ftp.eng.clemson.edu.

Thanks,
Dave Smith
