I received a multitude of messages saying to check for blanks in the
/etc/services file, that the blanks may be causing my problems. Well,
there were no blanks in my /etc/services. But, I did notice that NIS
"lost" our domain name muhlberg.edu on all telnet connections to the
box!?! Once I remade the maps, it worked fine.
