SUMMARY: SunOS4.1.4 filemgr bug deletes files

The original message was basically my laments about losing my work
directory to an apparent bug in SunOS 4.1.4. Part of the suprise was
that I thought I had installed most the patches - not that there where
many...or so I thought! Unfortunately, there were a couple patches that
were needed for 4.1.4 but only labeled for 4.1.2 and 4.1.3 -- these
were the openwin patches. Sun was pretty quick about a response
with the following email:

>Your problem is fixed by OpenWindows 3.0: File Manager Jumbo Patch
>100462.
>
>With this patch, you will need the XView 3.0 patch, 100452
>and the the Classing Engine 3.0 patch, 100524-06

I am not sure what a classing engine is but applied these patches and
fixed the problem.

Patch 100462-30 : SunOS release: 4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.1.3, 4.1.3C
Patch 100452-71 : SunOS release: 4.1, 4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.1.3, 4.1.3_U1, 4.1.4
Patch 100524-06 : SunOS release: 4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.1.3

The very good news is that I took the advice from several people and
unmounted the disk and fsck'd it and wa-la!!! My directory was safe in
lost+found!!!!! Needless to say I had to do a victory dance. Thanks to
everyone who replied!!!!
