I got lots of responses, the answer is that with Solaris 2.4 you must have
these patches
101945-27: (or later) Jumbo Kernel patch
102003-02: SunOS 5.4: qe driver fixes
We had version 01 of the above quad Ethernet patch and were experiencing
frequent NFS timeouts on those lines.
