I asked:

The suggestions came in three forms:

1) Use a UNIX or Windows based (g)zip package.
2) Get SunPC 4.1 by SunSoft.
3) Get SoftWindows 1.2 by Insignia Solutions.

While (1) was an excellent option (I am already using this), it doesn't
solve the second part of my problem, using "Reference Manager."
Considering I have a data base of several thousand references, I dread
the thought of setting up yet another program to do my references.

SunPC's list price is $245 (academic price around $170). SoftWindows's
price quoted to me was $549 (+$247 for support and upgrades). Both do
x286 emulation. SoftWindows new 2.0 (not sure if upgrade is included in
quoted price) is due September/October time frame with x486 software
emulation. Not sure if Sun is planning an upgrade, but they do have
486SX and 486DX cards available.

I decided to go with SunPC software only to see if that was adequate.
If not, then I may purchase a card later on. Card + software would
still be less than SoftWindows software + support.

Regards!
Tere
