The responses were sumarrized
1./ Yes, Install the patches for your OS, but not from the CDROM, because
they are out of date...look at http://access1.sun.com/recpatches/2.4.html
and check if you have some patches installed already with:
showrev -p
or simply looking at the /var/sadm/patch subdir

2./ Get the latest patches from sunsolve1.sun.com or
ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/sun-stuff/sun-patches/Solaris2.4.patchlist
3./ Forget it and install Solaris 5 which is faster and more robust.
4./ get Jumbo Kernel Patch 101945-3*
