I have been away from this list for a couple of months since my return to
the states from Germany and had forgotten how helpful everyone is. Less
than twelve hours and I have the info I need.

The answer is:

Most people are using the 2.5 compiled gcc binaries on their Solaris 2.4
machines with no problems.
