Original Question:

>We have a Sun/PC network environment. The PCs run Hummingbird's
>Exceed X-emulation software. We're very happy with the exceed except
>not being able to change the font size in the CDE terminal windows.
>When font size is selected, instead of the various fonts being
>displayed it just shows -dt-interface user-medium-r-normal-xxs*-*-*-*-*-m-*:
>lines for each font. Btw, if I highlight one of the long strings it still
doesn't
>work. How can I get exceed to recognize the CDE fonts?

Kevin's Response

# font server configuration file

clone-self = on
use-syslog = on
catalogue = /usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/F3bitmaps/,
/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/Ty
pe1/, /usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/,
/usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/misc/, /usr
/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/, /usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/,
/usr/openwin/
lib/X11/fonts/Xt+/,/usr/dt/config/xfonts/C/
# in decipoints
default-point-size = 120
default-resolutions = 75,75,100,100
client-limit = 10

Then add the fontserver to your eXceed font path. The server name
will be the machine with the modified fonterver.cfg file (you'll
probably want several of these). The transport is `tcp' and the
default port is 7100 (check /etc/inet/inetd.conf to change this).

Alternatively, take a look at hummingbird's web site - they may be
able to provide font.alias files that you could store in your PCs's
local X font directory. Many Xservers come with CDE fonts, but they
are not in the font path by default (eg Claris' MacX).
