SUMMARY: Pine NFS problems, how to force NFS v.2?

Thanks to all who replied. Using NFS version 2 with Pine resulted in an
OUTRAGEOUS performance improvement. What once took a minute is now done in
a blink of an eye. In fact, I can't tell the difference between Pine on
the host with the physical spool and pine on a remote host with an NFS
mounted spool since I made the change (must be the quick Ultra 100mbps
enet).

Sanjaya Srivastava hit the nail on the head with her response (below).
Many thanks to others who replied. Add her NFS "mount" options to the
mount options field of /etc/vfstab (comma seperated) to automatically
mount via NFS v2.

Use the option in mount to mount it as NFS version 2

i.e

mount -o vers=2,proto=udp,actimeo=0 server:/var/mail /var/mail.
actimeo is required for mounting mail and I have proto switch for you to try.

§ Hello,
§
§ A while ago, I posted a message regarding problems with severely degraded
§ performance in pine with an NFS mounted mail spool. When Pine was used
§ over NFS, it was very slow, hanging every few minutes. Mailbox opens,
§ expunges and closes were also very slow. Using pine as the same user on
§ the machine with the real mail spool was produced MUCH faster performance.
§
§ Many people replied to my post with various NFS issues. The general
§ consensus was that Pine was having a hard time recognizing or
§ working with Sun's NFS v3. Many people recommended I force an NFS version
§ two mount between the machines (both sparcs running 2.6). How can this be
§ performed? Can one mount be forced to version 2, or does the whole NFS
§ server need to have version 2 forced? If one mount can be forced, is this
§ done on the server through share, or on the client through mount?
§
§ Thanks in advance. As always, I'll post a summary.
