Sorry for the late summary. Quite a few responders
had the bad news, X doesn't redirect audio like
it can redirect graphics. Bummer. One respondent
suggested rsh cat filename > /dev/audio. It worked
okay, but not for the application I needed. Another
respondent suggested looking into alternate window
managers, but that isn't an option unfortuneatly.
