Summary: how to tell interface is in promiscuous mode

------- Original Query --------

does anyone know if there is a way to tell if a network interface is in
promiscuous mode under Solaris 2.6 and 2.7 ?

Used to be ifconfig -a would tell you, but apparently Sun has removed that
functionality from the command ( not sure why ).

I have taken a look at ifstatus, but it doesn't work for 2.7.

Summary:
========

A search of the archives ( which I did prior to posting ) does yield some
information, although a bit dated, may '97 to be exact.

In the end it turns out that Sun apparently broke the original ifconfig
functionality that would yield a PROMISC parameter for any interface that
was in fact in promiscuous mode.
>From what I can tell, this functionality has been broken since about
2.5/2.5.1.

At this point none of the interface checking utilities ( ifstatus, cpm
etc. ) that I could dig up will reveal whether the interface on a
Solaris 2.6 or 2.7 box being in promiscuous mode.

In addition, this functionality has been somewhat restored since it is
now supported for the gigabit interfaces. The hme and qfe interfaces
are the next on the list to have their drivers updated to re-support the
functionality.
Having said that, it seems, that to get at the information it will now be
required to use the "netstat -k" command.

I could not find any documentation on a "-k" parameter for netstat, but
currently it seems to do a dump of the system memory resource
utilization.

If anyone can shed some more light on what the -k parameter is intened to
do I'd be interested in hearing.

Thanx again for your help.
