SUMMARY: nfs mounting and copying as root

Thanks for the quick replies.

Special thanks to Jim Bacon <jim@nortx.com> -- he got it. I have to use
share -F nfs -o rw=machine,root=machine /directory

The root=machine tells it to allow root access. This may be a bad thing
to leave open, so when I'm done I'll close it off.

Thanks also to "Hill, Alan" <Alan.Hill@microcell.ca> and Robert Hayne
<robert@pegasus.cuug.ab.ca> for their responses. Yes, I did shut off the
automount stuff for /home first. I got into the habit of having /home as
the homedirs, so I always shut off automount there and move /exports/home
to /home. Old habits die hard, I guess (and I'm *way* too young to have
old habits).

All the best,
-Adam
