Thanks to all who gave quick responses.

- Query:

What is the standard procedure for adding a qfe card to an Ultra2 when a

go> boot -r

does not detect the card?

I am working on the 10/97 release of 2.6/SPARC

1. add any package avialable on the Sun Qfe card CDROM
2. #vi /etc/hostname.qfe0
test.a.com
3. #vi /etc/hosts
10.1.1.1 test.a.com
4. #reboot -- -r
it should work

You need to install 2 packages

SUNWqfed
SUNWqfedu

i think these come with the card

does not detect the card or ifconfig shows you no interfaces? I
suspect the latter. Try using prtconf and seeing if the qfe comes up
there. Try doing a plumb of the interface:

ifconfig qfe0 plumb

which will make the interface show up in ``ifconfig -a''

Did you get a driver disk with the card?
Sometimes you need to install the drivers off the CDROM if your
OS doesn't have the correct driver.....

Can you see any reference to the card in "printconf -v"?

Sounds like you forgot to install the qfe driver. The card normally
comes with a cdrom with the driver on it.

The standard procedure is contained in the manual that comes with the qfe card.

Try reseating the card.

Network interface cards do not require are reconfiguration reboot to be
detected.

If there wasn't a qfe card in the system when you installed it, you'll
need to install the qfe drivers from the Solaris OS CD or from the
QuadFastEthernet driver CD (NOTE: If you're going to use the Sun
Trunking software, you must install the drivers from the Sun Trunking
CD!):

SUNWqfed
SUNWqfedu

and then do a boot -r.

Remember to "plumb" the card. check the man pages for ifconfig.
