Problem
Would like to know if any of you have encountered this error message,
at the OK prompt while trying to boot from an external cdrom

ERROR Message "Can't deduct msgbuf from physical memory list"

I was attempting to load sun os 2.6 from an external cdrom by doing
"boot cdrom"
Probe-scsi was able to detect the hard disk and external cdrom.

Solution
This happens when you have the memory modules installed in the wrong
slots.
SPARC 20's are strange animals when it comes to DIMM installation
sequence, so
here's the order they should go in (from the FE handbook).

Assuming: You are looking down into the machine from the rear, and slot
0 is
closest to the disk drives (slot 7 is closest to the SBUS connectors)

DIMM # SLOT
1 0
2 5
3 1
4 3
5 7
6 2
7 4
8 6

If you follow this order, you'll get rid of that message, and you won't
see it
again.
