SUMMARY ADDENUM - IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION - Network TIme Server for Unix

I mistakenly thought NNTP and Time were the same thing
Thanks to Nikolai for the clarification!

Eddy Fafard eddy@iescrow.com found ntp to be flakey and I am
finding the same thing - tried both SERVER and MULTICASTCLIENT
and it seldom works. Only NTPDATE and RDATE works everytime.

My cisco switches can find the ntp server fine (using Client mode,
polls server every 5 minutes) which is my main objective.

Am now trying to get this ntp server (Solaris 2.6) to sync up
with www.ntp.org's server, probably firewall issues as it can
transmit but nothing comes back.

NTPDATE -M WWW.NTP.ORG (Just an example! READ www.ntp.org FAQ about
Public Servers!) does work though but cant use it when xntpd is running

One caution to all: wait 5 minutes after XNTPD startup before
trying to use it for the first time from a client or NTPDATE!

thanks,
--Ed
