There is nothing a SUN technician with a new DDS-3 tape drive can't
cure.

Thanks everyone for your response,

Regards
George

ORIGINAL QUESTION
------------------
On an E250 we have a tape drive that was succesfully writting/reading
DDS-3 tapes until Monday. After that, read and write errors have made
the DDS-3 functions of the drive unusable while the drive remains fully
functional when reading/writing DDS/DDS-2 tapes. The drive has been
cleaned and below I am displaying the log.

Please note: DDS-3 tapes that we wrote two days ago, we can NO longer
read on the drive. So the possibility of having bad tapes (even though
we tried 3 tapes from 3 different tape batches) is probably not the
explanation.

Why ther _very_ long log?

Anyway have the tapes been used in a DDS-2 mechanism in the interim?
That would be my guess. Either that or bad tapes.

Looks like you have a bad tape(s).

check if you have put write protect for the tape or
Some times you need to update the /etc/systems file for the drive type , you
can find about the etnries to be made in the doc that would have come with
the tape ot see docs.sun.com

We had the same problem on a 450 and the sun tech replaced the drive,
all fine now...

Have a Great Day!!
