FYI, this is a verion 1 qfe card, part number 501-4302. I built this Ultra 2
as a Checkpoint firewall for our security/network admin with Solaris 2.6 but
never did install the qfe driver. He's claiming that it's working fine as
hme interfaces so he does not want to install the driver. I guess I will
never find out if installing the driver will have help (if any). Perhaps
someone can me enlighten on this issue as a side note.

QFE version 1 cards appear has HMEs since they use the same driver.
QFE version 1 part number: 501-4302 or sun option number x1042A
QFE version 2 uses a seperate driver - /kerne/drv/qfe...

Notes:
1.The minimum operating system is Solaris 2.4. SunOS 4.x / Solaris 1.x is
not supported on the qfe.
2.One CPU per FastEthernet port is recommended to provide the highest speed
performance possible.
3. Solaris 2.4 and 2.5 Requires hme driver from QuadFastEthernet 1.0 CD-ROM,
package SUNWhmdl, SUNWhmdlu. Media PN- 794-7108-01
4. Solaris 2.5.1 does not require QuadFastEthernet 1.0 Software but the hme
driver should be updated with Patch 104212-05.
5. Refer to QuadFastEthernet Installation and User's Guide, 805-0732-10

OpenBoot PROM (OBP)
6. SparcStation5 should have Release 2.9 or later required
7.SPARCserver 6x0MP requres Release 2.10 version 3 or later
8.SPARCserver 1000/1000E 2000/2000E requires Release 2.26 (or higher)
andshould be installed on all system boards; bug 1228182.
9. For the UE10000, you will need 1049A Rev 2.

-----------------------------------

Thomas Knox, Kevin Amorin, Nicole Skyrca, John Marrett, Hans Engren, Jesse
Becker, Mark Cohen, and Stephen Forbes suggested installing the drivers and
plumb all of the interfaces.

Thomas Knox was nice and generous enough to send me the driver.

Kevin Amorin point out
http://www.sun.com/products-n-solutions/hw/networking/connectivity/sunquadfastethernet/qfe_response.html.
He also said "make sure to get version 2.2 as 2.1 is very very flaky on
solaris 2.6".

--------------------------------------

Daniel Wirth and Hendrik Visage, wrote that qfe version 1 is seen as hme.

Ken Germann wrote:
The card needs to have at least one interface plugged into a hub or switch
in order to be seen. If its not active, Solaris won't configure it. The same
rule applies to Sun single port ethernet cards. I wrestled with this problem
for hours about a year ago. =)

Thanx again to all that responded.
