Thanks to those who tried to help me out. I got some really good responses which, for the most part, was "boot -ra to rebuild the /etc/path_to_inst". Unfortunately the other contributing factor to my problem was the motherboard. The Asus CUV4X-DLS and CUV4X-D both require an experimental [beta] BIOS upgrade to work properly. This is only available through their FTP site, and is for the most part undocumented. 1009DLS.ZIP is the file needed if anyone ever happens to run into this problem.
