The responses were as follows:

Gabriel Rosenkoetter:
>Sounds more like a SCSI cabling issue, but I'm really guessing
>without the ability to look at your set up in more detail.
>
>If, however, a controller and a device both think they can do wide
>communications, and then have to back off it, it speaks it an
>unterminated end or too-long cables between the two devices.

Grant Schoep:
>We had the same problem with our E450 when we first got it. It =
happenend when we added our old 20 >disk Multipack externally to our new =
E450. Some >drives in it just didn't seem to want to run at full speed, =
if >I remeber correctly, this message means its reducing the data =
transfer rates because of sync problems.

It was awhile back, but I believe or troubles went away once we went down =
to the shortest >SCSI cables possible, as well as make sure you have all =
external devices terminated. Don't rely on the auto termination. I think =
Sun also had us automatically use >a lower rate for a few of the =
problematic drives.

>-grant

Hindley Nick:
>The system has decided, due to errors, that it will reduce the transfer =
rate on the bus to the disk.
>try reseating the disk - if that fails, then try it in a different slot =
or change the disk.

Result:
As these are critical servers, I've contacted our SUN support (as =
suggested by Grant) and they are working on it.=20

Thanks to you guy's, now I can render one more error ;-).
