Hello all,

Thanks a lot for quick answers. The answer is YES (though
I've not tried it). I did get some NO answers but YES's prevail
because of many first hand YES's and a dataram answer and quote
and warranty!

I'm including the "yes" answers (no particular order) and the
original question is at the end...

Sending private mails to "no" answers...

thanks again.

Durai,
That data sheet was probably written before Sun came out with the 2 GB
memory kits (8 x 256). You might want to double-check with Sun to verify
that the Ex000 line can take the 2 GB kits (I don't know why they wouldn't
be able to). I know the Ex500 line can. HTH...

You can put 256MB DIMMS in that machine.

Yes, you can, if the cpu boards are not the very first rev. Sorry I
can't be more detailed, the details are all back at a previous
employer. :-)
But we had a reletively late-model E3000, and several sets of 8x256MB
sticks, so we tried it. Figured worst case, it just wouldn't boot.
Worked fine.
Any of the more reputable 3rd-party RAM suppliers (Kingston, Dataram,
Crucial) should be willing to work with you on it.

Dataram does advertise such memory simms.

Hello Duari,

I saw your question about the Sun Enterprise 3000 on Sun Managers.org
and just wanted to let you know that the company that I work for, Dataram
Corp. manufactures memory for the Sun E3000. You can use 256MB modules
in that system and it will max out at 12GB, instead of the 6GB. We offer
a lifetime warranty on our memory as well.

.... some pricing information...

Subject: Ultra enterprise 3000 hardware question...

Hi Folks

Sun data sheet says E3000 can take upto 6cpus (in 3boards)
and maxes at 6GB of memory (with 2GB in each board).

I believe 6GB is arrived at ONLY using 8x128 (1GB) in
each bank (2 banks) of all the three boards.

Can one plugin higher capacity simms instead of 128MB
RAM and break both the 2GB board limit and 6GB system
limit?

(we have some systems with only 2 boards)

thanks for your time,
Durai
