Dear Sun Managers,

Thanks to all of those who replied. I originally omitted the fact that
I was installing on a 32-bit S5-70 SPARCstation, not a 64-bit machine.
This was the issue mentioned in all of the replies. I'm sorry for the
omission on my part. This is a great group... many are eager to help!

When using an older driver on Solaris 7 and up, it usually means you
are running the 64bit kernel, and the driver does not have 64bit kernel
support. In this case, you get the above message.

Try booting into 32bit mode (boot kernel/unix), and try loading. If it
works, then you are stuck using the 32bit kernel, or finding a newer
  driver with 64bit support.

Martin Schmitt
Could this be related to the fact that 64-bit Solaris can't load 32-bit
  modules?

Jens Larsson
What kind of computer du you have? Those are 32 bit drivers only so you
have to use a 32 bit kernel. This is default on SparcStations and Ultra
1 and Ultra 2<=200Mhz. But on later hardware the 64 bit kernel is
booted by default. I think I have used the Videopix card in Solaris 7
on an Ultra 1 but I am not sure.

Casper Dik
Have you booted a 32 bit kernel?

 ORIGINAL QUESTION
===================
I am trying to install a VideoPix card (old, but works!) on a Solaris
2.7 system. We did have it operate on a Solaris 2.6 box at one time.
Now, I am having trouble loading the drivers that I obtained from

    http://www.zcu.cz/ftp/pub/network/mbone/mice/SunOS5.x-vfc

  The following packages are available:
    1 SUNWvpx Videopix Device Driver
		    (sparc) 1.0,REV=0.0.0
2 SUNWvpxu Videopix Run-time support software
		    (sparc) 1.0,REV=0.0.0

  During the SUNWvpx installation:
    ## Executing postinstall script.
    Updated /etc/devlink.tab....
devfsadm: driver failed to attach: vfc
Warning: Driver (vfc) successfully added to system but failed to
	     attach

  During the SUNWvpxu installation:
    ## Verifying package dependencies.
    WARNING:
The <SUNWxilrt> package "XIL Run Time Environment" is a
prerequisite package and should be installed. Allowable
instances include (in order of preference:)
	      1.0,REV=1.0.5
    WARNING:
The <SUNWxiler> package "XIL English Localization" is a
prerequisite package and should be installed. Allowable
instances include (in order of preference:)
	      1.0,REV=1.0.5
    WARNING:
The <SUNWxildg> package "XIL Loadable Pipeline
Libraries" is a prerequisite package and should be
installed. Allowable instances include (in order of
	preference:)
	      1.0,REV=1.0.6

Has anybody succeeded in setting up the VideoPix under 2.7 or 2.8?
  I'd certainly appreciate any help!!!

 ADDENDUM
==========
I'm very sorry for not including more information. A quick response to
my initial post made me aware of this.

  - The system in question is a S5-70 SPARCstation
  - I don't know the model/revision of the VideoPix card
