SUMMARY: Problem compiling GNU stuff..

Apologies.  Apparently this is a rather frequently asked question.  The
answer is to install binutils from sunfreeware.com

Again, sorry about this.  I have about six people waiting for this box
to come up so I was in a hurry and didn't check the archives.
