Guess I missed the original post on this. Anyway, just thought I would share a solution I have seen used with the SunFire systems: Instead of the D240 Media Tray, you can use the Netra st D130 or the StorEdge S1 Array for your root disks. These are both basically the same unit - three UltraSCSI LVD hard disks in a 1U rack-mount enclosure. No tape drive or CD/DVD drive, but many people don't need those anyway...
