Many thanks to

Richard Butler and Michael Schulte.

Richard pointed out the problem with the Patch ID : 109234-09 that makes a
lot of changes to the SUNWapch configuration. I have just backed out this
patch and things are fine for now. I'll further investigate it after the
Thanks Giving break !!

(I even tried to put the httpd.conf file in the etc directory but still it
did not help start the daemon.)

Original Message :

I have Solaris 8 on Sparc. My web server has been working fine up until this
morning when I decided to apply the new Patch Cluster ( downloaded from
SUN's website).

During booting process, it gave this error :

fopen: No such file or directory
httpd: could not open document config file /etc/apache/httpd.conf
/usr/apache/bin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started
/etc/rc3.d/S90mysqld: @HOSTNAME@: not found
/etc/rc3.d/S90mysqld: my_print_defaults: not found

And even when I try to run it manually, it gives a similar error message:

# ./httpd start
fopen: No such file or directory
httpd: could not open document config file /etc/apache/httpd.conf

I have checked in the httpd.conf file and my htdocs directory is not
/etc/apache rather it is /usr/apache/htdocs and all the required files are
there. My httpd.conf file is also present in the /usr/apache/conf directory.

I can't understand why is it looking for those files perhaps at the default
location.

Your help will help me enjoy the Thanks Giving break !!
