Thanks to everybody who replied. A lot of recommendations were for Swatch, logchecker, fwanalog.sh, syslog-ng, logsurfer and a few mondules in perl. Some however were kind enough to share their code with me..and that is what I am going to go with. Would be customizing it to serve my needs here.
