Hi everybody !
The problem was solved thanks to an ideea given to me by David =
Harrington
(Thanks David). I just modified the OBP variable boot-file from the =
from the
default empty field to "/platform/sun4u/kernel/unix" . Now works O.K. I
still think there is a problem in firmware, which was not solved by the
upgrade to the latest firmware level available. But since there is this
workaround available, I'm not too concerned about.
George;=20
This is an old problem.=20
Look in the archives Jan thru May, and I think you'll find the =
permanent way
around the problem. I had that problem when I first took over this job, =
and
there is a patch which fixes it.=20
The short term (quick) fix is as you show:=20
boot: cannot open kernel/unix=20
Enter filename [kernel/unix]: /platform/sun4u/kernel/unix =
[enter]=20
Not a good solution with a critical machine!=20

Subject: Netra 1405 booting problem=20
Hi everybody !=20
I have a Netra 1405 (same motherboard as Ultra80 and Sun E420R). I boot =
the=20
sistem from the first internal disk (c0t0d0).=20
However, every time I try to boot or reboot it, the machine stops and =
say=20
"cannot open kernel/unix". I found a little trick, I press enter few =
times,=20
then I press / and Enter once and then again I type kernel/unix and =
press=20
Enter twice and the machine boots.=20
I did not played with OBP variables and is the only one who do this. I =
was=20
thinking is an outdated firmware and I upgraded OBP to a version from =
July=20
2001 (before it was a firmware version from dec 1999). Nothing changed. =
The=20
machine is new and always did this.=20
I noticed is not a timing issue (for example I allowed plenty of time =
to=20
internal disks to get started and still do not boot unless I do that =
trick=20
typing / and then kernel/unix.=20
It runs solaris 2.6 (latest Hw edition) and all relevant patches are=20
installed.=20
4x440MHz CPU's=20
The internal disk is SCSI 36 GB (Sun Original)=20
I'm out of ideeas, please help !! Sun enginner did not know what to do =
and=20
probably will overkill by replacing all beast.=20
