A1000 fails when removing disks

Hello all. I have a particualr A1000 array that will fail to see drives
removed.  All other A1000s behave normally.

It had drives 10,11,12,20,21,22 and if I remove 12 and 22, then reboot ( I
even tried reboot -r ) etc, then my server hangs for a long while, then
continues to boot, and then I cannot access A1000 at all with drivutil
etc.  So it thinks that drives are there but not responding...
