Libxml2 2.7.4 compilation issues under Solaris 10 (SPARC & x86/x64)

This is slightly off-topic, but I've tried several other places
(gcc-help mailing list, bugzilla) without success.

I'm at the point where I'm tearing my hair out, and so
I'm willing to risk the wrath of my fellow Solaris admins,
in case someone happens to have any insight into this issue.

Myself and one other Solaris admin have reported a bug when
compiling Libxml2 2.7.4 under Solaris:

   https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=595789

The developer's latest reply is:

"Ask Sun or someone to provide a patch, I can't fix that myself
as this makes zero sense to me, especially problems coming
    from /usr/lib/crti.o !"

Based on a suggestion from the gcc-help list, I built GCC 4.3.4
and configured it to use GNU ld instead of Solaris ld, but that
resulted in a different issue:

   http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-help/2009-09/msg00202.html

Again, sorry for the slightly off-topic post, but if anyone
has any thoughts on this issue, any feedback is very much
welcome at this point.

Thanks in advance for any replies and have a great day.
