e1000g to igb over crossover cable.

I'd like to connect a Sun X2270 to a Sun X4500 via a
cross-over cable running jumbo frames.  Both links
come up with mtu > 1500, but packets don't get thru.
ibg in the X2270, e1000g in the X4500.  No appropriate
switch readily available.

X4500:
 /kernel/drv/e1000g.conf:
  MaxFrameSize=0,3,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0;
 /etc/hostname.e1000g1:
  day-net1 mtu 8000

X2270:
 /kernel/drv/igb.conf:
  name = "pciex8086,10a7" parent = "/pci at 0,0/pci8086,3408 at 1" unit-address = "0,1"
   default_mtu = 8000;

Suggestions?  Will summarize.
