Summary of installation of lw printer on 3/60

Thanks for every one replied. The mistake I made was the conflict
speed between the 3/60 (19200 baud) and the lw printer (9600 baud).
The printer works great after the fix.

Many people pointed out the conflict of the speed. Other ideas were
1) check the cabling, flow control, carrier detect, etc.
2) spool directory be mode 777.
3) check the link/mount of the transcript program from the server.
4) examine the error msgs in log file (lpd-log) and in spool dir.
   (errsaXXXX).
5) recompile transcript program in the current version of OS.
6) reconfigure kernel for the serial port.
7) not to share spool dir with the server. (ok to share, though.)
8) clean up the lpd and the relatives, power cycle the printer, and
   restart lpd, etc.
9) bug in Apple firmware in the input/output Xon/Xoff flow control.
10) patch tape for the Sun serial ports.

Here is how I implemented the installation of lw printer on the diskless
3/60 with the spool directory shared with the server 3/280.

1) 3/60, diskless, 8MB RAM.
2) Apple LaserWriter II NT, dip switch 1 up and 2 down for 9600 baud
   RS-232/RS-422 communication.
3) Null modem cable:
                        1 - - - - - - 1

                        2 - - \ / - - 2
                               X
                        3 - - / \ - - 3

                        4 - -+ +- - 4
                             | |
                        5 - -+ +- - 5

                        7 - - - - - - 7
4) printcap entry:
   lp|laser|ps|postscript|PostScript:\
        :lp=/dev/ttyb:sd=/usr/spool/lpd/laser:\
        :sh:du=1\
        :lf=/usr/spool/lpd/laser/laser-log:af=/usr/adm/laser.acct:\
        :br#9600:rw:fc#0000374:fs#0000003:xc#0777777:xs#0040040:mx#0:sf:sb:\
        :if=/local/lib/ps/psif:\
        :of=/local/lib/ps/psof:gf=/local/lib/ps/psgf:\
        :nf=/local/lib/ps/psnf:tf=/local/lib/ps/pstf:\
        :rf=/local/lib/ps/psrf:vf=/local/lib/ps/psvf:\
        :cf=/local/lib/ps/pscf:df=/local/lib/ps/psdf:
5) /etc/ttytab entry:
ttyb "/usr/etc/getty std.9600" unknown off secure
6) make sure /dev/ttyb exists.
Note: if port A is used, replace ttyb with ttya in 4) 5) and 6).
7) make sure the spooling dir, log files, and the transcript program are
in the right places, corresponding to the printcap.
8) power cycle the printer AND
either clean up the lpd and the relatives OR
          reboot the system.

There are too many (>40) replies to say thank individually. I would like
to express my thanks here to all who replied.
